New Artwork at Henderson Campus Library

If you’re in the Henderson Campus Library this semester, you might notice some new pieces of art sprinkled throughout the library building!

Photographs of dark greens and deep blues from the Las Vegas Wash/Wetlands really make our walls pop! But did you know the photographer is a CSN professor himself? Artist Fred Sigman teaches Art Appreciation and Asian Art History online at CSN, while currently living in Cambodia. His donation of 8 photographs from the series “Bottomlands: Photographs of the Las Vegas Wash” reflects his desire “to make available to the College work that is relevant and educational for the benefit of the staff and students.”

The donation to CSN Libraries is also an expression of his feelings and history with the college, having first taught at CSN in 1986.

Professor Sigman’s life has been filled with art and history. Born in North Carolina, he moved to Paris, France at the age of nine and began taking pictures whenever he traveled. He returned to the U.S. for college, earning a B.A. degree at UNLV, then his M.A. and PhD from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

Sigman’s work has been on display throughout the country and internationally, with exhibits in New York, Palm Beach, Las Vegas, San Diego, Albuquerque, Sweden, and Mexico. His most recent book of photos, Motel Vegas, was published in 2019.
