American Heart Association Training Center

We are proud to be a designated American Heart Association Training Center serving Southern Nevada. Our Training Center promotes the mission of the American Heart Association, fighting heart disease and stroke, by offering quality AHA training courses in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support to the community. The Training Center also serves to support affiliated instructors who require certification, the latest training information, materials and course completion cards. Our instructors and training sites represent all areas of the Southern Nevada healthcare industry. In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, all classes can be customized and scheduled at a time and location that meets your specific needs.

Healthcare Field Entry

Home Care Aide Training

Funded by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Grant Program this course prepares students to become an important member of a caregiving team that assists the elderly and those with disabilities with their daily living activities. A Home Care Aide works in private residences, residential complexes, hospitals, and adult daycare facilities. The personal care provided by a home care aide requires an individual to be sensitive to the needs of clients and their circumstances. They help clients with many daily living activities from basic hygiene, dressing and preparing meals to general housekeeping and occasional transportation assistance.

Health Unit Coordinator

The Health Unit Coordinator program is an intensive 7 week (96 hours) course designed for serious students in preparation to start a career as a Health Unit Coordinator. Students who successfully complete course objectives included in the lectures, lab and clinical work will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to apply for the National Certification Examination (NAHUC). The Health Unit Coordinator program will help students demonstrate proficient knowledge consistent with: medical terminology, safe and efficient work practices, interdepartmental coordination, chart setup, protocol for treatment orders, admission and discharge, patient transfer, interpretation and transcription of practitioner’s orders, and preoperative and post operative orders.

Students are required to attend a Mandatory Orientation prior to the start date of the class.

Patient Care Dialysis Technician

The Patient Care Dialysis Technician program will train students to work with patients who have end stage renal disease (ESRD/Kidney failure) and need help removing harmful substances from the blood stream. This course is based on the National Association for Nephrology Technician (NANT) standards and after 4-6 months of clinical experience, the technician will be allowed to take the National Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) examination. As of 2010, National certification is required to work in the field and this program will provide a minimum of 80 (Hrs) of lecture/ lab coursework and 210 (Hrs) of clinical practice. The course will cover: Clinical, Technical, and Enviromental technician support; basic Renal Anatomy & Physiology, and Role of the Patient Care Technician.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

CNA participants will focus on the role of the nursing assistant in caring for noncritical patients in hospitals, nursing homes, longterm care facilities and home health agencies. This course is offered once per semester as a full-time 7-week accelerated program. Tuition sponsorship is available for qualified applicants. Upon course completion, participants will be able to perform basic nursing functions at the direction of a licensed nurse.
